About The Event

You are invited to a premiere event to kick-off the Sesquicentennial Celebration of the 150th anniversary of Aransas County. The premiere event is set for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, January 30 at the History Center for Aransas County.

At this event, Elected Officials will unveil the 150th Anniversary Memorial Monument. The monument will eventually be the centerpiece of the Celebration Plaza at the new Aransas County Courthouse.

Inscription on the memorial monument:

September 18, 1871– September 18, 2021

We the citizens of Aransas County do hereby dedicate this monument to mark our 150th year anniversary. Our Sesquicentennial Celebration includes the totality of our cultural heritage. Our hope is to foster pride in local stories and to encourage studies which will result in a deeper appreciation of Aransas County and its place in Texas history.

The New 2021 Historical Marker Guide is in production and will be a feature at the event. Owners of historical sites will be present to tell you about their properties as they are illustrated in the new guide. The Guide will be distributed in the Rockport Pilot and available at key venues across the county.

Late development: Richard Prince and his crew from Russell Marine LLC have created a miniature Copano Bay Causeway Pier from remnants of the old bridge/fishing pier.

The Sesquicentennial year has begun with a few events in the spring. The Major Sesquicentennial Celebration will be June 12-20, 2021 with a Founders’ Breakfast, a County Fair, a parade, vignettes at historic homes and cemeteries, and thematic exhibits at the History Center, Texas Maritime Museum, Fulton Mansion and the Rockport Center for the Arts. More details of coming events will be revealed. For more information or to contribute to the celebration, go to www.aransascouty150.org.
